A farm enchanted by peculiar ‘inhabitants’

Our farm is enchanted by peacocks, frogs, lots of little birds, horses, bees, a grand danois called Foz, geese and ducks, crickets, lizards, dwarf goats, chickens, hedgehogs, herons, ladybirds, fireflies, a donkey (called Jurema!), sheep and many other animals.

Our animals, the true emblematic ‘inhabitants’ of our Quinta, give our surroundings a sustainable buzz.

Animais da Quinta da Foz

Sweet Foz

The Grand Danois Foz is docile and gentle, loves receiving visitors (especially new four-legged friends) and is very child-friendly.
Foz belongs to the lineage of ‘Great Danes’ - the name by which this breed of dog from Germany is known in Great Britain and other countries.
The Grand Danois family have lived at Quinta da Foz for decades and Foz is the eldest daughter of the last litter born at our Quinta at the end of 2020.

The affectionate Jurema

Jurema wasn't born on our farm. We picked her up because her owner could no longer keep her and we thought Jurema would be happy with us.
She's been living at Quinta da Foz since 2018 and since then she's been one of our most emblematic herbivorous inhabitants due to her huge eyelashes and tender gaze.
She's gentle and affectionate, but very greedy and gluttonous. She loves carrots...

The sporty Tribuno

Tribuno is a very curious and friendly horse. He was a sport horse whose main quality was his capacity for equestrian sport.
He competed in various disciplines at a professional level (obstacles, dressage, raids, etc.).
Today, over 20 years old, he is resting but still needs a series of treatments and specific sports routines.

The coquettish peacocks

The peacocks at Quinta da Foz are not ours because they are free-flying birds who choose where they want to be. But they prefer to live with us and, for a long time, they have selected their territories in some specific places on our Quinta.
They sleep in the tops of our trees, nest in our fields, mate and dance in our gardens and add exuberant colour to the identity of our nature.
They sing and delight us with their colourful fans and exuberant plumage.

The mischievous little dwarf goats

Now that they're a family, the little dwarf goats are still as lively as the day they arrived at our farm. They are as cute as they are photogenic, and their fluffy fur has contributed to the ‘stuffed animal’ look we love so much.
As rural animals, they are essential for preserving the flora ecosystem at Quinta da Foz, because they love herbs and help to clear large areas of our Quinta. That's why they're so plump...

Mute ducks

Mute ducks get their name from their low, whispering sounds due to their remarkable ability: the male lets out a sound that resembles a whistle, while the female emits a sound similar to something like ‘fi-fi’.
Because they are aquatic birds, they love our pond, which they share with a resident heron (who visits us from time to time...).
They love the pastures of Quinta da Foz and have adapted very well to our territory where they fly (more than swim) and embellish our resident fauna with their peculiar caruncles (‘red warts’).

The intrepid geese

Our geese are very protective and defend themselves ‘squawking’ (when they coo) against any approach. Always in chorus!
They roam in groups and very close together. They roam the meadows and fields of our farm from one side to the other, looking for new things and carefully guarding their territory, which they preserve very well.

The cock-a-doodle-doo family

Our roosters and hens don't literally run around everywhere. That's because they are a very polite and respectful family.
You can find the family, always in a flock, in our meadows, at the back of our Quinta, running along the dirt tracks, on a branch or snacking on the feed of the other animals at Quinta da Foz (the peacocks and ducks are their friends).

Lanzudo and the other little sheep

First the Lanzudo sheep arrived in 2020, with a fluffy coat that could provide wool.
Then we went in search of the Tricot ewe, in February 2021, to keep Lanzudo, who was feeling lonely, company.
The names of both were chosen by followers of Quinta da Foz's social networks.
In the meantime, Lanzudo and Tricot fell in love! They had a little sheep and the family, which likes to go unnoticed, is growing strong and powerful. It hops around the farm garden and wags whenever it feels happy.

All the animals on our farm, regardless of their breed or species, live with us.
They help us give our farm life and a natural dynamism.
Enjoy the way each of our ‘inhabitants’ tells us their story with their songs, howls, barks, bleats, cackles or neighs.
Get to know each of our animals and their families better, and when you come to our farm you can call each ‘inhabitant’ by their name.
